Jamestown Res.

Recommended Posts

Well my first night out on the Res this year was great. I got my big house out so now I can get out fishing after work more often now. I had my limit in about an hour of nice fish. I picked up 3 18" fish and 2 14" so it was a pretty good day out.

iffwalleyes-

You ever run into a guy by the last name of VanRay on Jamestown Reservoir?? One of my good friends lives in Pettibone, ND and his family farms darn near the entire county in that area.

Its a small world sometimes but this one might be a stretch.

You are right it is a small world. I know Matt fairly well. He was pretty good friends with one of my room mates that was in the Ag Econ program. I have ran into Matt a few times out there not recently though.

Unreal!

Matt was one of my best friends in college. I talked to him on the phone the other day but haven't been to his place in awhile. I'm going to try and get him out to Upper Red this winter. He still seams to think fishing in Minnesota isn't productive.

Do the last names Steinberger, Lovas, Krogstad sound familiar at all??

OK now this is getting crazy Krogstad was my room mate that I mentioned. I lived with Scott for about 3 years. How do you know all these guys if your are in architecture since the two that you and I know were in Ag. I probably have meet you and just don't remember.

Your right! Crazy!

I met VR & Luke Steinberger when I was in the dorms at NDSU. 4th floor Thompson Hall to be exact. I was good friends with them through pretty much all my years at NDSU. VR, Luke, & Jason Lovas all lived in that nice apartment north of West Acres. I happened to spend many nights there partying. I don't know how Krogstad knew these guys but I know Scott & Mary pretty well now too. In fact, the last time I saw them was out at VRs wedding in Jamestown. We pretty much did the weekly bar scene in Fargo, especially the Ground Round Tea Night/ Bucks 50cent tappers on Wednesday.

We had a large crew fly down to Mazatlan for spring break one year. (VR, Jane, Scott, Mary, myself, and some others from Moorhead)

I'm sure we've met on a number of different occasions.

Its kind of funny that I have more friends in Ag than I have in Architecture but that is how it worked out.

Huh that is funny. Yep the year they went to Mexico I went to Lake of The Woods just shows where my priorities were. I remember Scott talking about a Hanson every now and then just didn't know it was you. Scott knew VR through their classes. I got to know Matt when I was a freshman in the Bison Bowhunters club. Did you ever come over to our place then?

iff-

I do believe I was over at your place a few times. I'm just trying to remember where it was at. I want to say SE of campus towards Chubs but it has been awhile.

I think I'm even starting to remember chatting ice fishing with you when I was over once.

And yep, I was the infamous Hanson. None of those stories are true either. wink.gif

I'm definitely going to have to hook up with you on Lake of the Woods sometime this winter. Maybe chase some flags out of Warroad towards the end of March. Last spring was a bummer, hopefully those Pike will be going this spring.

greenhorn-

I miss NoDak and the Fargo area alot. I also miss NW Minnesota too. Right now there is 12+ inches of snow on the ground up there and the cities has none. mad.gif You put a country boy in the cities and he starts to get restless. If I can only find a solid career in architecture in the middle of nowhere, I'll be set!

The more we talk the more it seems to come back I think I remember talking now too. It sounds like you were at the right place just north of Chubs what a great location that was. You bet we will have to hook up and chase some of those toothy critters. We have already been talking about going up for that.

Also I was out again tonight on "The Res." wasn't as good tonight but we manage 3 keeper eyes and a few more that need to grow up a little before the make it in the pail.

Hey,

I've heard Jamestown res. is crazy. Any of you guys know the Kaldor's from Mayville? I know that's where Jason farms now. He is a good friend of my bro-in-law Dana Kaldor. Just wondering. I married up to a Kaldor girl and now I know them all of course.

Just wondering.

Fished them both on Saturday Ed.

Pipestem was slow. The res was pretty good for walleye. Alot of really really light biting fish. Several times the bobber was at tthe bottom of the hole and at hook set the only thing we did was pull the minnow out of their mouth.

We fished Hobart today and got into some Jumbos out in 17'. Not high numbers but a good pail of sumos. We missed a ton of big perch too.

We started shallow and worked deep. The big perch were deep and high of the bottom. Jigging big minnows on Glow Demons were the ticket. I also caught a few on a GMO Chubby Darter with Waxies tipping the rear hook.

We fished open air...it was Coooooooool..and windy......very Coooool.

Then we popped over to Pipestem late in the day and didn't do much there. Left at about 6, we had enough air for one day.

The perch were a hoot, been a while since I caught a mess of nice sumos like those. Shanon caught one slob perch that dwarfed the rest and they all were darn nice. An easy 2# sumo.

Well I lost the fish tonight. Time to move the house to a different spot. The weather has affected them a little as well I would image. I haven't been out as much this past week, but it has been slow when I have been out.

Well I got the house moved tonight and found some fish. They are not agressive at all and I really had to work for what I got. I got about 10 fish but only 2 were keepers. So it is better but still not great. Maybe thing will pick up as we climb out of this cold snap that we have been in.
