Anti-Reverse Qs.

zelek

Question

I just purchased a new spinning reel the other day. It's a Pinnacle Deadbolt DNF 30 and I was going to put it on my jigging rod.

I haven't even put line on it yet and I noticed something I'm not sure I like. With the anti-reverse switch "on", I can turn the handle and occassionaly get the reel to slap back when I stop and move it backwards.

Should I return it and exchange for a different one or is it unreasonable to expect more from a $35 ice fishing reel??

I think if a product "says" its instant anti reverse, then by golly it should be... However, i dont know a whole lot about the pinnacle deadbolt , other than its made by Silstar... I am much more familiar with Shimano... I would return it, but thats just me...

Your more than welcome to get the same reel but before you leave the store check its instant anti reverse.

Zelek, this is a common problem with these, it's the grease not the reel. I have DNF 25's and 30's and the lube needs to be switched as it gets a bit thick in cold weather. If your in a hut they'll be okay after a bit of a warmup. Outside they can be a problen. In all my Pinnacles I have switched the lube to Quantums 'Hot Sauce', kind of a hassle but not a problem since the switch. A hassle but those are some darn nice reels for the money.

zelek. i would take it back. it could be the grease, but they did have problems . i have three ( two 30's and a 25). i had to take two back right after buying them cause of the anti reverse. and this was in the summer time. this was 5 or 6 years ago. no problems since. i have to go with EX. i won't buy any more dead bolts. del
