Ears
How much ice would you feel safe to drive and F-150 on the lake? I am reading some sites and most say about 12". What are your thoughts?
Ed Carlson
4" of new clear ice is the minimum thickness for travel on foot 5" is minimum for snowmobiles and ATVs 8"- 12" for cars or small trucks (Remember that these thicknesses are merely guidelines for new, clear, solid ice. Many factors other than thickness can cause ice to be unsafe.)
beer batter
I usually start driving my F150 out at 14 inches. I've been on 12 and was a bit wary.
Mankato-Ice-Man
My F-150 stays on solid ground until there is 14-16 inches of ice. I'm sure its fine for less then that, but I like my truck more then I like avoding excersise (but its close tho'!)
