I would take a very close look at the cost of materials to build a frame. I built my own frame this fall and the price of steel is insane. My frame is 16'x6.5' and the steel was over $600 and I used 2"x2" tube instead of the 2"x3" that most manufacturers use. Take into consideration the parts for wheels, winches, hitches, and other hardware and you're probably looking at $1,500 in materials supplies. Supplies such as drill bits, saw blades, and welding materials aren't cheap either. This doesn't even consider your time spent building it. If I had to do it again I would sit down and price the entire list of materials and supplies and then shop around for a manufactured trailer.

I've built several over the last dozen years...not because its cheaper or even better, but just because I enjoy the experience. However, if I do need another in the future I'm gonna buy. If you really enjoy the fabrication go for it. As for me, I got it out of my system. Been there, done that.
