HideHunter
Just up-graded to an 18 from a 5 yr old 8. I've heard there is more 'flicker' to the screen but I'm wondering how much we're talking here? I'm using some fairly small jigs but I'm getting enough flicker that the green line actually separates and if I have 'weak' fish signals I'm having trouble keeping track of the jig. So do I have a problem or is this the nature of the beast? thnx..g
viking_fan
Mine works fine !!!!Sounds like you need to turn up the gain just a touch.

bturck
Never had a problem with the flicker. This is my third year. They are real sensitive, so the gain adjustment is important. If you're fishing shallow, you can get by with the normal mode. Less than 15" I usually don't use the AZ unless I'm in real hard bottom, rocks etc. Bill
Matt Breuer
Are you experiencing the flickers at night? Are they bugs coming out from the mud or fish on the edge of the cone? If you turn up your gain when you've got stuff coming up the bottom your jig will tun red, but the flickers will stay. Unfortunately in a bug rising situation with any flasher you have to sort through it.

HideHunter
I'm wondering if I'm just not used to the more sensitive gain. On the 8, most of the time, I didn't even need any gain. Jig just showed up as green blip, but just a *solid* green blip. Not flickering all over. Did get out the video and watch it last night. Noticed they seem to be getting more flicker than I was used to with old unit. And they were cranking up the gain so there was orange showing. Haven't been doing that. I'll take your advice and fool with the gain a little more before I panic. I'll also tell you this. I'm not real partial to "change" and sometimes I get a leetle impatient. Thanks for the response..g
EBass
Did you check out the bottom zoom? I like to fish for walleyes in the winter and I always have the bottom zoom on. Also, just read this thread now and it sounds like the gain to me to. I'm going on my third year and I can't fish without it. I also use it in my jon boat. HideHunter
Just got an Email from Vex said it may be a weak transducer. Wanted me to send it it. Told them it's still 'useable' and I'll send it in at the end of season or when it won't work at all. Anything's better than nothin'.
eyewinder
HH:You may be able to borrow someone else's transducer for at least a few minutes to determine whether that's your problem. Or, if you held on to your FL-8, you could try the transducer from it, couldn't you?
HideHunter
Good Plan Eye, actually had thought of that. Son in law scabbed onto my 8 but he's coming home for Christmas. Maybe when he's not looking - *he'll* have a weak transducer.
