rich4walleyes
My son wants to keep the tail off a deer that was taken this year. Does anyone know how to preserve it or what I should do with it to keep it looking good? Thanks in advance for all the help.Rich
delmuts
rich. if he wants it spread out, then i spilt the tail to remove the bone then tack it skin out to a board to dry just like drying a fur.( trim any fat off of it and keep it in a cool area with moving air). if you know some one that traps racoon;( they should have a tail puller) then you can split the tail a little ways then use a tail puller to pull the rest of the bone out. then hang it vertically to dry. del
Guest
fter taking tail bone out by small inscision in back, scrape the fat off and dry with salt for a few days, then put some borax on it ,light covering and let that sit for 2-3 days. that should bug and moth-proof it.
