Frozen venison

How long does meat stay good in the deep freeze? I'm not talking about vacume sealed packages. Just the good old butcher wrapped paper taped shut?

I HAVE A PRINTOUT FROM THE MDH (MN DEPT. OF HEALTH), THEY STATE VENISON STAYS IN FREEZER AT 0 DEGREES FOR 6-12 MONTHS. I HAVE HAD IT FOR OVER A YEAR AND AS BEEN GOOD. NOW I HAVE A FOODSAVER. INTERESTED TO SEE HOW LONG IT STAYS GOOD. I THINK IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW IT IS PACKAGED...

My friend found a bags of butcher wrapped venison in the bottom of his freezer from the 2001 season. He said it looked good and ate up fine. I don't know if I would have personally ate it but he did. As long a freezer burn doesn't set in it should be good. But I make sure it's all gone before it get too old.
