Eagle Lake

Recommended Posts

I just got back from fishing Eagle Lake. We stayed at Stanley's. We tried fishing for pike on the west arm and only caught 3 of them but one was a 40 incher. The walleyes were biting alright on the reefs infront of the resort. In my opinion i wouldnt fish the main lake or the west arm i would go on all of the portages that you can. We caught alot of northerns in violet and crabclaw. If you want to catch walleyes go to violet and fish around the islands at the far end. Walleye is also another good lake for walleyes. If you are really looking for pike you have to go to mahfaking. We went there and boated over 200 northerns. The biggest was 37 inches. Trout is a really go lake for small mouth. We caught over 60 with two of us in just 2 hours. We fished next the the fall coming out of brown trout. There is also alot of lakers in trout and crawclaw.

I hope this helps you a little mike d.

Thanks!!!

I guess that is disappointing news on the main west arm lake not having much northern action. As long as the portages you mention were not too difficult to get to though thos will be great if numbers you got hold up for next week. I am leaving this Friday from Chicago area.

How were bugs (ladies need to know) and pier fishing, bobber type (kids need to know).

Thanks Again,
Mike

Mike,

There was almost no bugs when you were out on the lake but when you are up by the cabins in the evenings they are pretty bad. The bugs were also bad on some of the portages. For pierfishing you cant fish off of the docks becuase they dont want you to catch there pet northerns, walleyes, and muskie. Bobber fishing worked good for northerns if you put on a big sucker and let them take it for awhile.

Do you have the family package?

Thanks Again.

I thought they were kidding about the pet northerns? Can you shore fish at all near camp? Sometime while taking a break I can have the kid float a bobber.

We do have the family package. Were you satisfied? You are saying the bugs near a beach area as well as fishing on lake are ok during the day?

Mike,

They throw all of there dead minnows in the water by there docks and it attracts fish to come in and there is several fish that stay there all summer and feed on the dead minnows. I am not sure if there is any spots to shore fish by camp. We always just went out in the boat. We were very satisfied with the resort. The bugs weren't bad at all during the day unless you were walking through the woods. All you need to bring is some bug repellent and you will be just fine. If you really want to catch alot of pike you should go to mafaking. In the family package you get a free full day guided trip with a shorelunch. Mafaking would be a great lake for you guys to go to. Silver mepps syclops and white and red daredevil worked the best for us. Anything that flashes works really well for pike. Are you just going to be trying for pike? Are your kids old enough to beable to cast?
We posted some pics on stanleys HSOforum that you can take a look at.(They will be posted by itzmered)

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Thanks Again,

The kids may start to learn some casting or trolling this year but I picked up some heavy duty rigs for under a bobber just in case. I figured minnows or leeches maybe?

I was wondering what the smallmouth are biting on up there? My step-dad is a newbie so we will look for action more than monsters.

Mike,

Most of the portage lakes have smallmouth in them. We caught alot of smallmouth casting for pike. Crankbaits worked very well but we had the best luck useing a hook and a split shot tiped with a leech or worm. If you are looking to catch alot of smallmouth you have to go to bass lake or trout lake. Trout has alot faster action if you fish by the rapids coming out of brown trout lake.

Are you planing on taking out a guide one day?

Yes, we will use a guide. We would like to try to spread the guide use out over two or more half days rather than full days. That way we can really get a handle on a couple of species and locations.

That is good news on the smallmouth. I like to throw shad raps and trusty rappala originals. Going for Pike and Smallmouth would make me happy all week!!!

They won't you let fish from the docks because of pet northerns?? That is absolutely ridiculous!! These people need to take lessons on how to run a business, the customers enjoyment should be first over pet northerns!

Just returned from a great trip to the west arm of Eagle Lake. Stanley's resort was great and the service as well. The fishing was down a bit on Eagle due to weather fronts and cool weather I presume. We did quite well on portage and fly-in lakes.

Fishing was ok on the dock after all just not in a small area. No problem and the pet northern, smallmouth and muskie were a hit.

As fro customer service I would say the people at Stanley's top to bottom know everything!!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
