Has anyone here went there? Up near Pelican lake from what I understand? My Boss has booked us a trip for 3 days up there, I cant wait!

What was your experience like up there?

Sorry about the long time to post the reply. Moosehorn Lodge was one of my best trips to Canada I have had. Cabins are decent, food is good and service is top notch. Boats are 18', w/50 Honda's and transom mount trolling motors. They are cleaned each day, gassed and ready to go each morning.

Fishing was excellent:

3 guys for one week

374 walleye, 25 over 20", 26" largest
40 northern, 5 over 30', largest 36"
3 smallies, 16-20"

Ok, here we go.

We left Saturday morning from Bemidji, Mn. After a long delay at the border, and another 3 hours up in Canada, we arrived at the Moosehorn Lodge. THIS PLACE IS THE BEST! great people.

I fished off the dock that night and caught 5 Walleyes right there, biggest was 17".

Sunday morning we headed out to the Frog Rapids area, caught a couple including a 25" by Lon in the other boat. They headed in but Myself and Cory stayed out till dark. Caught about 15, alot in the slot though (18-21)

So Monday morning came around, we ran into a guide who had an opening cause of a last minute cancel, thanks whoever you are. The Guides name is Collin, he works for Moosehorn. It was POURING and near 35 mph winds, but I was ready. After 2 stops, he had us on Eyes. During the day both boats had maybe 50 Eyes, biggest was my 23"

. So after a tough wet morning we set up for shore lunch. There was a interesting looking bay with alot of logs in it, so I tossed a Long cast Rapala into the area, first cast BANG. 36 1/2" Pike viewfile.cfm?files=36pike1a%2Ejpg

Slot is 28-36 but I let er go. Went back, maybe 2 casts later BANG another which I never seen, was taking drag like the first. Got wound up in that log jam . Tried but couldnt get at it.
Here is another nice pike caught earlier. viewfile.cfm?files=27pike2a%2Ejpg

After lunch, the fun began. Going for Eyes We all seen this 42" Pike come up to the boat and NAIL the jig Cory was reeling in. Very cool! After a long fight we got it, and of course released it.

An Hour later the 43 came on a spoon, had a huge cut on the back from a prop ot another fish?! Here is Lons big fish. viewfile.cfm?files=43pike5%2EJPG

Awesome time, I went out looking for a Laker that night, was marking tons of fish in 50' of water, Im thinking cool. WALLEYE! viewfile.cfm?files=23eye2a%2Ejpg The darkest ones Ive seen. Anyways, awesome trip .

Great pics. They got me ready to go and looking forward to leaving on the 18th. Any insight on where you were catching the fish? What part of Minnitaki did you hit? How is the Abram's Chute this year with the water a little higher? Anything you got would be great.

Again, great pics and glad you enjoyed it. If you would rather exchange info by email you can reach me at [email protected].

Thanks

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
