Colorado open water forum?

Recommended Posts

O.K., last open water season some of us hung in there and posted frequently. It sure would be nice to get as many people participating on the soft water as they did on the hard water. Lets keep this going strong year round! Thanks to Rick for the reply. Lets drown some worms!

Well, I would Love this forum to get started and I would like to be the first to point out what I've heard about Cherry Creek Resevoir. My uncle was there this past week and said they were setting the nets for the walleye up by the dam and couldn't do anything considering it's post spawn time.Give it a couple of weeks or so and the Walleye will be prime. He said there was some monster's in there.Well, take care you all and good luck to all lunkers.

Well guys I dont do much open water fishing, but I sure enjoy this forum, so I will post my open water reports on here. Most of the open water fishing I do is out of state, so if you guys fish in Wyoming or Nebraska I will have some reports.

Its good to hear from all of you. I think if we get into a good stable weather pattern, the fish will be biting. Chad, did you mean Standley Lake. Those are some nice fish from shore if it was Standley! Can't wait till May 1st for open boating there. I haven't been out in a week so I'm getting mighty itchy.

Greetings Well I did some digging and found

Antero – Remains dry and is not likely to refill until the water supply improves.

Cheesman – Reclamation work in the wake of the 2002 Hayman fire is now finished but Denver Water says the reservoir will remain closed to fishing all year because of a remaining danger from still-standing burned snags. Crews will spend the summer removing them.

Tarryall – Dam repairs have been completed and the reservoir is ready to start storing water, but not much is available. At best, it may be partially filled but the entire State Wildlife Area is likely to remain closed to the public this year.

Dang 2 of the three best close places are toast.

Spinney is fishing pretty well, lure fisherman were doing better than many fly fisherman during the opener, I did ok on egg patterns and calibetis nymphs anywhere from 10 to 20 feet off shore. They should be spawning for another two weeks near the dam so thats where to be. I guarantee you'll have more action at Spinney in the first couple of hours than a full day at taht other lake. I'm gonna give it another go round sometime this week.

caught a monstrous small mouth there at standley last week. Fished the east side by all those rocks, drifted a whole nightcrawler under a 2 foot float. Measured 20" weighing about 4 pounds, great fighter. Still waiting for Carter to get about 10 degrees warmer then the walleye bite should be hot trolling suspending cranks in crome and blue (Rogue's).

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
