Anyone heard if Lake John has hard top yet?
Let me know please. I might call the resort and find out myself. I'll let you know if I find out anything.

The resort owner told me they started icefishing last year Thanksgiving weekend.

Called Lake John Resort this morning. Got a recording stating that John and the Buttes were capped over and people were ice fishing them. It did not state the thickness of the ice though! It did say to be careful on the early ice. Good luck,

Fished Lake John on Saturday & Sunday. Fishing was great. We (4 adults and my 7year old son), caught tons of small ones and all managed to get limits of nice fat 18-21" rainbows both days. Ice is 5-7" thick with a few soft spots along the ridges. Weather was great in the thirties each day. It was a very satisfying first ice trip.

Dan Dan, Thanks for the report. Glad you had a good first ice experience. I did read that last summer the DOW put something like 250,000 5" trout in Lake John because of the low water everywhere else. Thanks again!

That is where we go Elk/Mule Deer hunting in Oct.

What do you know about Big Creek Lakes?

Are you a local resident?

I here there is quite a bit of snow out there right now.

Big Creek Lake is the largest natural lake in Colorado. No plowed roads in the winter, so you need a snowmobile to icefish.
