Twin Lakes, NW Iowa

Does anybody know anything about this lake. Seems to be a really nice lake. I'd like to ice fish it but don't have a clue where to start. What kind of fish and structure does it have in it? Thanks.

Glad you asked it just came out in the paper and the dnr and some local fishermen who live on the lake just built and in stalled 28 stake beds made of pvc I do not know where they put them but I would say they are with in 300 feet of shore no wake area this was in the fortdodge paper on monday. I fish there and I was fishing a area on the south west side where they put a steak bed 15 years a go, the locals tell me. I also was told by a friend who dives and he said the bottom of the lake is like your garage floor flat and smooth. So if you find stucture there remember it it will hold fish. Tons and tons of ski boat trafic in summer the fish just shut off. Very good in the winter.

I know WALLEYES_ONLY fishes this lake quite a bit....sounds like it would be a decent ice lake if it doesnt get too much early ice pressure. What is the ice fishing pressure like on this lake?

I fished it a couple of times last winter.
Went late afternoon and fished till 8 or 9
P.M.Caught some crappies,nothing huge,but
keepers. There are also some nice gills if
you can find them.I never caught any waldos,
but I did see a 2 pounder eyeballing my
minnow.I could see red on my vex,and I leaned over and looked down the hole and he
was 1"from my minnow.I yo yo it a couple of
times but he just swam away.

I think that North Twin is on a rebound. Seems like the last few winters we have been picking up more and more fish. There is very little structure in the lake, but there is some. There is an old guy that has put big rocks down a hole in his shack for years and created a nice pile. This has produced good walleyes in the past. Seems like folks have the best luck in the narrows during early ice, but the ice is not always the best. They are talking 12 degrees tonight, maybe we will be on the ice by Thanksgiving!

That would be great ice at Thanksgiving. A friend of mine in northern minn. said you had to have your shack ready for the ice so you could put it out during thanksgiving break from school but even the last few years up there thats been slim. November ice that would be great!!!
