Last night, I got into a conversation with one of our truck drivers, he's from Clear Lake, out in Iowa. He was telling me that the kid who shot the buck apparently did not have his firearms safety certificate, making him inelligible to hunt big game, therefore inelligible to possess a big game hunting license, and for this reason the DNR confiscated the buck. Has anyone heard about this or is this just some nasty rumor???????

I suspect it is a rumor. They tend to float around when every big buck is taken. Too bad to, it really takes away from the experience!

Being from Iowa I ahven't heard this yet. It depends on what season he hunts. In the state of Iowa you have to be 12 to get your hunter safety card. If he was hunting 1st season muzzleloader he does not need one IF he is hunting in direct supervision of a licensed adult.

Not if he was hunting the youth season he MUST posses the card and still be in direct supervision of an adult.

Basically it comes down to what season he was hunting that determines if he needs the card.
