Bore greater than 20 in Canada?

Recommended Posts

Finding a lot of conflicting information about this. Apparently March 9th this year Canada outlawed guns with bores over 20mm which would mean 12 gauge shotguns. I see information stating that hunting shotguns are not in this ban but not on official government websites. Who would I contact for clarification? Boarder patrol? Customs? Fish and Wildlife?

I’ve read some on this too.  12 gauge shotguns only exceed the bore size when removable chokes are removed.  Otherwise they’re fine, and basically the size the law intended to limit people to.  Should’ve been written better and does leave room for interpretation.  The Canadian residents have been asking for clarity as well.

I’d contact border patrol at your crossing point to see how/if they’ll be enforcing it.  They’re the ones you have to get through.

Good plan.  Thanks for posting.

I have a buddy that wants to plan a trip to Kansas this fall but I wanted to go north too.  Still haven’t anchored that trip yet.  I can’t imagine Canada outlawing 12 gauge shotguns. I can’t even say stranger things have happened.

I think I reading something about the intent was to cover mortar launchers and that type of thing.  Goose hunters might miss their 10 gauges but modern 12 gauge rounds have narrowed the gap between the two anyway.

Good luck!
