Big Jeff
Long trip coming up soon and I already have two vex batteries one 9ah and one 7 ah. But based on past use they will be close but not enough for the whole trip. We are not going to have access to power more than a few min most of the trip. If cash where not an issue I would go but a 3rd battery but things are tight and I have an older trolling motor battery. Can you rig up any size 12v batterie to run it off of? Motorcycle battery or old trolling motor battery should still hold a good amount of power? Or is there any way to transfer power from the large battery to the smaller lower 7 or 9ah batteries? Looking for ways to use what I have and stretch a 4th day of heavy use out of what I own already. I I also have a booster pack/car jumper? fishwater
Jeff, the motorcycle, trolling and booster pack battery should all be able to get you by. You're vex is only going to pull so much current, it should be safe. I'd rig up some sort of pre-made wiring harness with an inline 2 amp fuse with clips that'll work for you, test it before heading up. Most car boosters have a 12volt accessory socket, you can go right from there too.
highlife4me
Whenever I am fishing in a shelter I always put my flasher on top of an upside down pail or milk crate to keep the flasher as warm as possible to extend the battery life. It is more comfortable for me to keep an eye on the flasher when it is raised off the floor too. I also store my spare battery in a bag attached to the overhead pole inside the shelter to keep it warm. Anything you can do to keep the batteries warm will help. Four day trip with two good batteries should not be a problem.
Finlander
If you have access to a deep cycle trolling motor battery, hook it up to that, that should never run down, then run it off your regular Vex batteries when running around outside. Works for me!
