Esox_Magnum
I use one of my HDS( 5 or 7) units off of my boat, can either do a ram mount or I have mine on a vex pack for portability....
CaptainMusky
If you have an open water GPS unit from your boat use that. I use my hds 7 on my quad. I have a ram handlebar mount and it works awesome.
mtheis
Can I ask, do those units, as well as the Humminbird, stand up to the cold very well? I thought below freezing temps damaged their screens?
Esox_Magnum
Been using mine for 3 winters plus they stay on the boat untill Thanksgiving or later....No issues...
Rick Johnson
After trying many different ways to mount a GPS on ATV's and snow machines over the years I have found the best way is to mount the GPS unit in a Blue Genz Box. My Artic Cat ATV has the speed rack system with a front side basket that the Genz Box just sits in, on my Bearcat the Genz Box just hangs on the handelbar grab bar which keeps it nice and close. The best thing about not mounting the unit permanently is that it is portable. You can use it in your truck. If you are looking for your spot and want to limit the ATV noise on the ice once you get close to your mark you can take the unit off the machine and walk around til you find your exact spot. CaptainMusky
I have used my hds in temps to -20. My ATV wasn't too happy with starting that day but the GPS worked flawless.
Charlie Mason
best way to prevent issues with your GPS screen (both my Garmin Etrex and HDS-5m) is to leave the unit wired to your machine's battery. On my quad, I wired a power point that goes into the machine's socket, with a sled, you will have to hardwire to the battery. Make sure you install the inline fuse with any open water unit though. Might_B_A_Pike
I have a 597 Ice Pack, I just set it on the fron cargo rack of my wheeler and put a clamp on it to hold it down. those RAM mounts look really nice, but for the cost its not worth it, plus once I get to my location I grab it and go. Matt Breuer
I have my Lowrance HDS-7 mounted on a RAM on the dash of my sled, and have a ball on the handlebars of the ATV as well. I bought a cig lighter power cord from Lowrance, and can move the unit between sled and ATV with ease. Works perfectly, and is big and bright.
