Charlie Mason
Last night while I was tying up some of my hair jigs for Lake Erie's spring walleye bite, the ol' thought process started wander towards the ice and buggin' up when it comes to gills, crappie and even perch. It reminded me of my buddy Barry Williams getting a mention in the Roadkill article in this year's I/F Ice Guide http://spookyspiders.bravehost.com/ The tungsten bead jigs worked out great this year, specially the shrimp with and without the bead. Without the bead gives you a slower rate of fall which can be killer in a neutral bite situation. When I pack up the tackle and hit the road, my collection of bugs always goes with me, you never know when they will be the preferred bait of choice in high pressure situations. If you dont have at least a small variety of bugs in your aresenal, you could be really missing out on some really good bites.
Rick G
Great post Charlie. I have been using hair jigs for panfish through the ice for a lot of years now. There is something about the movement of the hair that the fish like.
