mrpike1973
thinking of buying one of these houses. Frabill likes, removable seats & windows; 300 dineer tent. clam -windows are not removable. can you replace the mounting bolts with kotter keys or clevices? 600 dineer tent. Is this heavier? having a hard time choosing. concerned about windows. Does the clam have spreader poles? Seems like less room for auger. Had a clam 3 or 4 yrs. ago, not impressed with quality. What are your opinions?
Brad B
I would go with the clam but would get the thermal version of the Nanook. the fabric on the non termal nanook is twice the thickness of the frabill. the nanooks don't have spreader poles. the other option you could do to the nanook is to not put the seats in at all and place a 1/2" piece of plywood in the bottom of the sled and then use the clam cooler chairs. even with the wood in the sled the weight will be a lot less than if you use the seats that come with the house. If you do have a issue with a clam the customer service department will help you resolve it and they will make sure you are happy with their products. Bernie Keefe
I am a huge fan of the Nanook, get the thermal top. The Nanook does have spreader poles. As far as Clam quality, their customer service department is second to none. They have listened to concerns a few years ago and "revamped" their quality control. fisherman-andy
The Frabill Trekker DLX thermal is no slouch. I would recommend one go and actually look and compare both units before making a purchase. But if your concern over CS wise then Clam currently has a more positive rapport. I just put together a Thermal Nanook last week and the only pole that is came with was the pole for the back wall behind the seats. there was no spreader poles for the roof and front door panel. it was a carry over model from last year( still had the old logo on the side of the house). should I contact customer service about getting the poles if they where suppose to be there but were missing. it seems fine how it is without them. the assemble instructions didn't list any spreader poles or show them in the diagram. Bernie Keefe
The spreader poles come with this years models. You might be able to order them through Clam's customer service.
