Jason Hamilton
Brookies are usually a great species to target on first ice as they are often in smaller lakes. Next time you are heading out look for a shallow mud bay (2-5') and drill in close to shore. Use the auger to stir up the bottom. This will suspend aquatic invertebrates in the water and bring in minnows and trout. I try to set lines out and sit on shore to minimize noise on the ice.
