Ice out east

Recommended Posts

I fished near the Fort Sisseton area last sunday. The ice was approximately 3" inches thick. I wore a life vest and took both my cel phone and billfold out of my pockets. I did not walk more than about 60 yards on to the ice. Fished for about an hour with no bobber drops. It was still nice to be relaxing on the ice and watching the holes for activity. This week temps have raised to day time highs in excess of 40+ degrees. It may be a few more days yet for safe ice.

One other quick story! I purchased a used 8" hand auger and of course the blades were shot. I went back to my trunk and remembered I had a large crow bar so I chipped out a half a dozen holes with the straighter end of the crow bar. I have now replaced the wore out blades with new stainless steel blades from my local bait shop. Happy East river deer opener in South Dakota. I will probably be Pheasant hunting.
