I was out there too, caught hundreds in two days between two boats, 99% of them 15.75-15.25 inches, still caught some to eat out there. All males and they were milking like crazy. It was like catching bullheads, but it was fun. Also boated a few spawning northrens including a 17 pounder on 6 lb test and a small jig. Ice should be just about gone on the entire lake by now.

Today, 4/16/2003 rain, sleet and snow! It looks like it may take a few days for spring to return. Walleyes were in the middle of spawning on Richmond Lake. Water temp had warmed to 55 degrees. I fished last night casting jigs and minnows into the shallows, no luck also tried shallow running artificials with no luck with them either. Happy Easter and good fishing!

Hey Aberdak, where exactly is Richmond? We stayed up on the north end of waubay near Grenville. Is it kinda close to where we stayed or not. I always like fishing new water when we go. What kind of fishing does Richmond have and what are the regs? Thanks

Richmond Lake is just Northwest of Aberdeen, SD. It is occupied with lots of year around homes. Spring and Fall are the best for fishing, The summer is full of recreational boaters. The lake is a man made lake. In my oppinion, not quite as pretty as Waubay or Lynn or other NE SD Lakes. Just an opinion! :-)

I'm heading out to the Waubay area on Monday night, just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on where to find a few walleyes on Waubay, good bait shops, etc, thanks much.

I was thinking about heading out there this weekend too, but the weather doesn't sound good for the next 2 weeks. I was out 2 weeks ago and we caught all males. I was wondering if anyone has seen the females move in yet, or do you think it may be awhile yet? I would think with some decent warm weather they would really start going, but who knows. I think the crappies have been picking up though.

Honker,

I've been on Weather.com and it looks okay for the weekend, 30% chance of scattered T-Storms and high 50's to low 60's right now.

Unless high winds come into the picture that isn't too bad of a forecast. I'm watching things up to Thursday when we have a better forecast.

As for the Females, if they spawned just after ice-out when the Males were milking all over, then it'll be about 2 weeks after the spawn, which should mean the Females are recovered and looking for food--Thoughts?

Deemo,

Your post from yesterday--was there alcohol involved? grin.gif

I hit Waubay Friday and released over 75 Walleyes. 1-SM Bass and couldn't find the Crappies anywhere. I took 1 slot fish 16.5"

This was some of the best SD fishing I've seen to date.

Hey Chells I caught two smallies out there this weekend too, I didn't even know they had any out there. I agree with you when you say it was some of the best fishing you've seen out there. It didn't seem to matter where you went, as long as it was 4-15 feet of water, you would catch them. I didn't seem to notice a pattern to find some of the bigger (slot) fish, did you? Most were all mixed in with the small ones. I'd also agree with you when you said the females should start to get hungry and move to some summer locations pretty soon. Good luck

nope. Im lucky enough to work nites. In two days he had 200 eyes in the boat. Thats with 2 guys fishin. He said he will not buy a MN licence this year. Why go there and struggle to catch 5 when he can catch 50 or more easy in SD. I have a place on a MN lake and Ive never seen this kinda fishing. Out of the 200 or so he only had 10 in the slot. That they could have kept. When they ran out of bait they threw plastic and did well. not as good but who would care.
