I was thinking of heading west this weekend because the walleye season is closed here in MN. what lakes seem to be producing the best bite for both walleye and perch? i would also like to know how accessible these lakes are by truck. any help would be appreciated.

Wauaby has been good for perch and Walleyes. But the walleyes are generally under the 16 inch size limit. Lake Kampeska or pelican by watertown have been prodicing walleyes this year also.

I'm also heading that way this weekend, going to try Waubay, I heard the perch are nice. Check out some of the resonces I have been getting under my FM name. Maybe we could hook up and discuss how we did. Let me know, were heading up there on Friday. I'm staying on Traverse and driving over that way on Sat. I'll probibly go to the casino Sat. Nite. to gamble a little.

fished waubay wednesday, it was slow caught a couple of small perch by hedke pass and a few under slot walleyes. some snow on the lake was a little tough to get around in a few spots. headed over to horseshoe lake east of lily for the afternoon, limited out on some nice perch 10-14" on southend of lake and a few bonus walleyes 16-18" had to walk out on the lake. too much snow drifted in on the west side access from the minimum maint. road. Hope this helps.

It was very windy here in South Dakota on Saturday. Wind blew 30+ mph in the afternoon and evening.

I'm heading up north of Watertown this next weekend if the weather holds out. Where is everyone going to be fishing at? I might try Maynard's slough or Reetz lake.

Even with the wind and the front, limits of Jumbos were taken all weekend in 24'-28' along with some nice 'eyes.

Use a 1/8oz. Gold spoon with a pile of Maggots on the hooks!

We got out on waubay around nine and my son pulled six nice perch out in the first hour, all I could catch were 15 and 3/4 in walleyes, just under the slot limit. I ended up getting really sick this weekend and had to head home because of it, sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck this weekend.

Chells & Iceholeguy, what area of the lake did you fish? I fished up north on Saturday around the islands. I caught my limit, but is was very slow. Was the bite better with maggots or is that all you tried? I usually use minnow heads. Thanks

Just got back from SD.3 of us arrived at Waubay lake on Thurs. night for a few hours of fishing. We kept 13 perch 1 walleye and lots of small walleye on the north side by Grenville.
Fri. we headed to Bitter and kept 8 northern with 3 in the 6-7lb range. We also kept 6 nice perch and 3 walleye. All of the action was before 3 o'clock and then it completly shut down.
Sat.we decided to fish Minnewasta and only caught 2 small northerns. We packed up and arrived at southwest Waubay at around 3 0'clock.We drilled right on top of some perch with our first holes and limited out by dark(nothing under 10 inches).
We had 2-3 hours on Sun. morning to fish before we left and had 13 perch but probably?could have had our limit by noon. All in all a good trip.

ifishsd,
I will be concentrating on Lynn mainly, but want to hit Waubay for a few hours also. I bought a SD annual license last time out so we may bump into each other sooner or later.

Good luck & Good fishing Lucky

See my post from 2/27. We did pretty good on horseshoe last week wednesday. caught all our perch on waxies and castmasters with a few bonus walleyes on tip ups and minnows.

18-20ft water on the suth end of the lake. We had to walk out on the ice we couldn't get on the lake with our trucks from the west end. Ice was a good 21/2 ft plus.

Good luck

We fished to the left of the public access about 1 mile. Small group fishing by ourselves. Didn't use magots, caught all our jumbos on minnows. The walleye's hit at the same time that the perch were bitting, so I didn't want to use magots at that time. Hope this helps you out alittle.

Gotem,

We've had much faster sction on the Maggots for the Sumo's, and Minnow heads work best on the 'Eyes when they are biting early and late in the day.

We fished South about 100 yards from the "Pack", when it slows down, we move 50-100 yards and get back on them.

wall_ezzzz... Did you acess te south end of the lake from an east - west road that is on the south end...... runs right next to the lake or is that road closed or under water? How far out did you have to walk? Hope to be up that way soon, want to try it. Thanks JR

Not sure what end of the lake we accessed, but I can tell you we paid three dollars to get on and drove through a big field to access the lake. But when we left we went out on a public access and it was in good shape. I didn't see any water on the road or anything like it. The roads on and off were in pretty good shape, bumpy on the lake, but four wheel drive had no problem. Hope this helps..

JR,

I accessed from the south end on the west minimum maint road that is closed. You can drive right down to the lake but have to walk out from there. We walked out a couple hundred yards with our sleds and fished all over by the trees. I think you probably could come from the east too and access the public boat ramp and maybe even drive on?? but we didn't try that because we needed the exercise!! This lake isn't very big so walking around isn't much of a problem but for a little lake what beautiful perch and nice walleyes. The bottom was covered with broken trees and cattails on the camera and the fish were just scattered throughout them.

Hope this helps
