New Ice Castle Questions

Hey all,

I recently upgraded from my homemade wheelhouse to a new hydraulic ice castle and had a few questions I forgot to ask at the dealer.

1. For the hydraulic frame, does anyone bring extra hydraulic fluid with? Wouldn't imagine to need it unless you had a leak but I don't know much about hydraulics. Ever need to change out the fluids?

2. Ladders. After buying and trying to get on the top bunk I noticed it is extremely hard to climb up there (especially after a few beers) are they suppose to come with a ladder? was going to call the dealer and try and make them throw one in. I made a temporary ladder which works fine but wondering what other people have done.

3. DNR Registration numbers. My previous house I had some decals made up and looked real nice. However that had smooth siding. Anyone have any advice on where to put numbers that look good? Suppose I could just be extra careful in applying to the ribbed siding so they get applied smooth with the grooves but wondering where everyone else puts theirs. Don't really want to do the old white square boat numbers on there.

4. Microwaves. Anyone have any recommendations on a good microwave to install? I have a lot of empty space above the hydraulics near the kitchen I think a microwave would be perfect, and there is already an outlet there for charging the hydraulic system battery - just wondering if anyone had a good one for travel/low power draw.

5. Any recommendations on generators? Was going to go buy a new Honda 2000 have heard good things about them and always been a Honda fan. that should run a small microwave I'm thinking? My Honda 1000 bit the dust last year - mainly because of my own mistake haha

6. Sound system. Sounds okay in there but it isn't the upgraded premium speakers. Wondering if anyone had some new speakers they liked and possibly a new deck.

7. Rod holders. Wanted to throw some fishing pole holders on the wall in the bathroom. Was having a hard time finding any I liked at the stores or online. Anyone have something that worked well for them, and didn't fall out during transit? I had one last year I had mounted under a cabinet and of course the first weekend with my new crappie pole fell off and broke!

Figured I'd see if anyone had any advice on what worked well for them. Thanks in advance!!

One more thing I forgot to add, are the insulated wheel well covers worth it? Wanted to get something at least to protect the wheels in the summer from mud/sun etc., but came across insulated covers for like $200 bucks. Worth it for the money or just get some cheap wheel covers at like fleet farm?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
