Thought this article was interesting. It is about holding bigger fish, but probably applies to the little ones I catch too. I guess I never would hold one by the jaw like the one guy is and the study shows this is a bad way to hold them. Didn't realize holding them vertical makes em a little dizzy. I usually stablize them in the water before I release them, so I guess that probably helps them recover a bit from a vertical hold.

The big issue is trauma to the jaw when people hold bigger bass incorrectly. Multiple studies I've read show that can dislocate or break their lower jaw, leading to higher mortality rates that are completely avoidable. I will be sure to heed the advice once I start hooking some slobs next month :)
