I would recommend Iams. Start her on the puppy food and then switch to the Chunks or Mini-Chunks. This has been excellent food for my previous lab and the one I have now. Both dogs have very nice coats and were/are very strong, energetic dogs. I started my first lab on Purina but when she was about 2, she started losing her hair - vet. said she wasn't getting enough protein and recommended Iams. I'll never feed my dogs anything else. My Yellow Lab is 85lbs. and only eats 3 cups/day and is very healthy. Go through about 40lbs./month - $25/bag at Fleet.

I think that puppy food from any of the major brands - Science Diet, Purina, Iams, will be fine. Just start out with a small bag, so in case it doesn't agree with them you can change.

FYI, I went with the Science Diet puppy food because of the different blends - Active, Maintenance, etc that SciDiet has and the fact that the local farm store stocks them. So far the pup likes it and its stools are solid. Life is good.

My vote is for Eukenuba. I feed my lab (13 weeks old) their large breed puppy mix. Check with the breeder and if you change food from what they are feeding him/her get about 3# of their food and gradually 'wean' your dog onto the new brand (25%new-75%old, 50%-50%, 75%new-25%old).
Also, when choosing a brand of food, check on the nutritional column and find one with a high precentage of protein and one where a filler (grain products) is NOT first or second on the list. You can feed your dog 'Ol Roy' if you want to and it will keep it alive, but buy quality & expect quality.

PS. Very important - take a walk with your dog every day if you can for the first 6mo you have him/her. They are developing & growing so much right now and what transpires with their bones/muscles now will be what carries them for the next 12-14yrs. Also, don't just walk on the street/road, take them through weeds, woods, cattails, etc. so they get a workout in these areas.
Here's some good reading:
