As far as telling the difference between sharptail and ruffed, what are some of the main defferences to make a quick conclusion? Are ruffed mainly smaller, darker in color, obvious different tail feathers.sharptail, does it seem to be lighter in color, somewhat resemble a prarie chicken?thanks[This message has been edited by Dano2 (edited 09-14-2003).]
jlm
Sharpies always cackle when they lift off and do so as they fly. Ruffs make a much louder sound as they take off, its similar to the roaring of an engine. They rarely make any noise when lifting off. Sharpies are larger and tend to fly and glide, fly and glide and will fly much further than a ruff will. A ruff usually will not glide much at all. There is also usually a big difference in habitat as well. However, they sometimes use the same stuff along pastures and filed edges. Good luck!
