grouse hunting

I'm getting fired up for the pheasant season, and cant wait to get out and about walking some land and would like to do a little grouse hunting before pheasant opens.

I live in moorhead and have never grouse hunted (except for running into some in ND last year pheasant hunting) I am wondering if anyone could give me some pointers as to were to go from here to find some public land that just might hold some birds

What type of habita do they hang most in? I remember out deer hunting out by frazee quit a few years back and seeing them around the evergreen (or whatever those christmas tree looking things are) trees abit, but this was private land, and I'm not able to hunt there anymore.

I have a dog, but this will be her second season out and really didn't get on many birds last year, so needless to say shes abit inexperienced.
