Bear Hunting the Swamps

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about picking up a no quota tag and the area I am looking at is probably 80% swamp and the rest is scattered with some timber my question since its mostly swamp will I find bear in that swamp or will they try and stick to the small wooded chunks?

I would put out a test bait, i would find a pice of high ground in the swamp, funnel corridor, check the timber area for raspberry plumbs, oaks with mast, three things to look for is water, which you have in the swamp, cover, which is the swamp and they'll hold up inther during this heat, and food. food water cover, the three main ingrediants for bear. but id get out now and put out test bait, by the means of hanging a bag and polluting the area with a grease shower. put up a cam and give it bit. Id also run any drainge ditch areas adjacent to the swamp for pad prints to see what might be moving thru the area.. the only stipulation of a test bait is you have to hunt 100 yrds away from any bait prior to aug. 15th. if I found sign in the area or the test bait hit. Id hunt the swamp or relativly as close as you can get with out being in his bedroom.  do a google earth and see what funnels you can find.  Id get out now, with the test bait.  Buuuuut if you already know theres bear in the area, simply put Id hunt a funnel from swamp to berry patches.
