bore reducers

I just saw something called bore reducers in the cabelas catalog, it appears to be a insert in the camber that reduceses the gauge of the your gun, so your 12 gauge will shoot 16, 20 or 28 gauge shells. just curious if anyone had used them or know if they work?

I have seen them around and have been considering using one for sporting clays but haven't been able to find anybody with any first hand knowledge of how they work or even if they work. any idea how a 20 gauge shell would cycle through a 12 gauge pump or auto loader? Or are these strictly for use in my over under?

Well I asked the kids working at the gun counter at gander and they said they work but are really only meant for O/U. You can use them in pumps and autos but you can't load them in the magazine only in the chamber. Also you have to either catch them or pick them up as they get ejected. So it turns your 12 gauge auto or pump into a 20 or 28 gauge single shot. Other then that it sounds like they work great. If you have a O/U they work fine, and if you have a auto or pump they would work if you were shooting trap.

That thing sounds like a gimic! WHy the heck would you buy a 12 gauge if you wanted to shoot a 20 or a 16.

I bet someone will blow a barrel up and then you will have to buy another gun, which you should have done in the first place if you wanted to shoot 20 or 16.

Savage Arms had one out that would fit in a 12ga. o/u I had one (just to try it) It worked ok but... you were still carrying around a big bulky shotgun instead of a nice small frame 20 or 28 o/u.
