Guest
pheasant season is closed. Grouse numbers are way down this year. I know nothing about partridge hunting, but would like to contiue my hunting season. Does anybody hunt partridge or are they kind of a bonus bird shot while pheasant hunting? I know I've never seen one while pheasant hunting. Where should I look for them? I read the post a few weeks ago about the bobwhites in carver county and the debate over if they were partridge or quail. So i'm guess they can be found somewhat close to the metro. BLACKJACK
I haven't seen a Hun if 4-5 years! They never have been thick, but occaisionally you'd run into a covey. Like pheasants, they don't like wall to wall farming, but they can't tolerate lots of grassland, they need a mix of cover types. Best bet would be to contact the DNR, they could tell you which counties (probably in SW MN) that have viable populations.
doubleUcubed
There are a few "hungs" around the Southern part of Kandiyohi County and extreme Northern part of Renville County. A guy at work here shot 2 (hungs) while pheasant hunting this last weekend just South of Lake Lillian, MN. My Dad lives on the County line and I have seen covey's of them over the last few years, not as many this year but they are still around.
Guest
I see a few coveys out here in west central mn but I think they are nearly impossible to hunt. Have got some while pheasant hunting but pretty rare. If there was some snow road hunt in farm country and you may find some on the edge of fields in the mornings. They never fly very far so try and push them to cover, let them sit a while and then jump them usually they will not run. I think you could go to game farm and spend less money than it would take to drive around and find one. Nearly impossible to see them in fields without snow, but they are very tastey so good luck
