Top Gun
I will be spending some time in the New Prauge - Montgomery area over Thanksgivng. Just wondering if anyone has ideas for a pheasant hunt, either public or private land, in that area. Any information would be appreciated.
Top Gun
Jeff, Thanks for the tips.I'll check my maps and the DNR HSOforum for public areas and probably knock on a few doors too if an area looks promising. Will post my results next week.
MNice
I live right between those townsand I hunt 80% public land. Just east of Montgomery on county road 26 there is a waterfowl production area, had some success there. South of Montgomery on hwy 13, then east on county 138, another waterfowl production area, lots of ground to cover, hunted there last Sunday and saw 2 fly to private land as I was driving , still hunted but no birds. Check the dnr HSOforum for WMA's in the area, there are quite a few in the immediate area I've hunted with some success, not great but OK. Good luck and post results please. Jeff. Guest
I work in New Prague but don't hunt the area all that regularly. There is a fairly large public piece of land NE of town a little bit. Check the DNR Maps. I have had some success there in the past. I'm interested to hear how your weekend turns out.Hoss
Top Gun
Jeff & Hoss - I hooked up with a freind of a relative in the area who has some spots on private land between Vesley and Lonsdale. Really nice cover and there were birds there but unfortunately we didn't get any. We didn't have enough guys to block the cover. The birds were running ahead and the ones we saw were getting up ahead of the dogs. A change in plans left me with only about a half day to hunt on Thursday. Still alot of standing corn in the area too.
