harvey lee
I am looking to purchase a video camera for taping some of our sons races, should I get a video camera and if so, what type do I need? I will have to zoom in to some degree. Not looking for anything real spendy, just a unit to tape the race with a zoom feature. Or is there another oprion besides a video camera? Dbl
Harvey I think a video camera will suit you just fine for what you want to do. Two lower cost cameras I see mentioned often for sports are the Sony HDRP-J440 and the Canon VIXIA HF R62. If wifi capability is not important the Canon VIXIA HF R600 can be had for around $250.The ability to shoot at higher frame rates is a must with action sports so make that a priority. Most have good zooms already so that should not be a make or break deal. Best of luck!
