Guest
Perhaps there's a remote chance if the bird is bleeding and your dog ingests blood. It's hard to get straightforward info on this and other exotic strains of disease. For yourself, the advice is to be certain to wear gloves when cleaning your birds. CANOPY SAM
According to the literature, Clayton is correct, except the dog would have to have an open sore in it's mouth as well. The infected blood has to enter the blood stream of another animal, just ingesting blood from an infected bird would probably not infect the dog. The natural digestive enzymes in a dogs (or humans) digestive tract would destroy any living virus in the infected blood. If you have open cuts or sores on your hands you should take extra precautions when handling any wild birds. If your dog has open wounds in it's mouth it would probably be best to leave him/her at home until the wounds have healed. Sorry!!!

Guest
accourding to my vet i talked to yesterday when i had my dog in, he said it is hard for a dog to contract the virus because they have a strong immune system. He also said there is no cases of any dog dying from the virus yet.
