99 Tahoe security ?

My 99 Tahoe has a bit of a hiccup. Randomly the vehical will just turn over but not start. I have narrowed the problem down to the security system. The security light will stay flashing at the instances the vehical won't start. Exactly 10 minutes later it must reset itself and the tahoe will start.

Anyone have a remedy for this?

Or is there a bigger issue?

The first thing I would do is try using your spare/extra key. The pass lock system may be having problems "reading" the key if it is worn. If it is the same with another key then the ignition cylinder may be getting worn/sloppy and need replacing. In any case, address it sooner than later because at some point it could leave you stranded and not start at all.

i don't think the key is chipped in this year? The lock cylinder uses a magnet to excite the passlock sensor in the ignition housing which then sends the go/no go signal to the theft module.

I do not believe there is a chip for the key either.

Jeremy, Sorry very ignorant mechanically, what is the lock sensor and location? Do you believe this may be the cause?

You are correct, no chip key! I didn't pay attention to the year. Often the problem is the lock sensor in the ignition housing, but can also be the body control module. The lock sensor is in the steering column and it is where the ignition tumbler goes into.
