Updating to Win 7

Recommended Posts

I'm updating my PC to Win 7, but can I reinstall my Office.programs, or will Microsoft think I'm trying to install Office on a different PC?

Of course, you're entitled to reinstall any version of office that you're using in accordance with your EULA. Microsoft MIGHT think you're trying to install it on another PC, but it might not. Sometimes during re-installs of windows and/or office, especially after changing hardware out (motherboard, hard drive, CPU), the automatic activation step fails. Rarely, but more than once, I've seen where it tells me I have to call into some phone number and type in about a 30 digit code to activate either windows or office. At that time, a computer on the other end asks a question that's basically "how many computers have you got this installed on", and I press or say "1" and they say "thank you, here's your activation code", which then has to be typed into the activation window on the PC. That's it.
