Denny Hamlin motorcoach hit by rolling SUV

Brant James, USA TODAY

HAMPTON, Ga. - The Twitter hashtags #tooclose #mybad hit home – literally - for Denny Hamlin on Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

A driver parking his white SUV adjacent to the driver motorcoach lot mistakenly left his car in gear Friday, allowing it to roll backward through a fence and into the side of Hamlin's personal coach.

A team spokesman said Hamlin's rolling house sustained superficial damage and that no one was injured.

Hamlin's run-in immediately became pre-practice fodder on Twitter, as Kevin Harvick crew chief Rodney Childers distributed a photo and driver Danica Patrick proclaimed her innocence.

Patrick and Hamlin, a frequent coach lot neighbor and golfing buddy, engaged in a lengthy and impassioned discussion at Daytona International Speedway last week after Hamlin appeared to wreck her from behind in their 150-mile qualifying race. That was a day after the two wrecked during practice.

Hamlin later quasi-apologized for his advanced drafting technique on Twitter, utilizing the hash tags #tooclose and #mybad.
