Locator for kayak

Looking at getting a locator for my kayak. I've never owned one and was wondering what some of you use for yours. Also any good tips for using, mounting and things of that nature. Price I don't think will be an issue but hoping to stay around 700$ max for all of it. Thanks for the help.

Looks like a decent locator. Question, how is it using the chart plotter and di side by side? Not sure it would b the easiest with a 3.5" screen. And not being a tech nerd how easy is it to figure out?

I have a Humminbird 597ci mounted on my kayak using the portable transducer kit. I put together an album going over how I installed it. The main things to consider are locator head unit placement/mounting, transducer location/mounting, and how to run your power and transducer cords. I'm thinking about relocating my transducer to the inside of my kayak this summer just to eliminate the possibility of the cord snagging on things. I'd also recommend fishing out of your kayak a few times before rigging anything up just to get a feel for what kind of layout would work best for you.

I shoot right through the hull on my kayak. I just use the same transducer in the LX 6 for open water as ice fishing.

Thanks for the info guys. I have until spring to figure it out but I'm leaning humminbird. Another question when shooting through the hull what do you do for mounting the ducer? Just let it sit on the bottom? glue it somehow?

I like the new Helix series - the Humminbird Helix 5 SI goes for under $500. You can do a transducer exchange for the thru-hull (hole in kayak) version.

I let my Showdown Troller ducer just sit on the floor of my canoe.

Splash a little water in when needed.

I know some guys put down a little ring of silicone to hold the water.
