Ford Freestyle door adjustment

Recommended Posts

06 ford freestyle, drivers sider door seams to sage down slightly. When you close it, it hits low on the latch and bumps the door up a little. The hinges are solid with no play in them. Is there any adjustments on these doors that I can make to lift it a bit. Is there a different solution.

Thanks

The striker is what you would normally adjust if the hinges are good. Most cases the hinges are worn allowing the door to drop. Lowering the striker will help it latch properly but the body lines may not be aligned correctly if the hinges are worn or bent. To lower the striker loosen the bolts (or stud) and drop it slightly then retighten and test it gently. Repeat if necessary.

A super easy way is to put a floor jack with a block of wood under the wide inside part of the door and jack it up slightly. So u ds scary, but just a touch at a time will cause no harm. I have a tool that actually clicks into the door latch and you use the striker as the leverage point to tweak up or down. Perfectly normal and safe if done carefully. That way, your body lines will still line up and all will be good in the world. Has the vehicle ever been hit in or near the door area? If so, just bring it to the shop that fixed it for you.

I don't believe its ever been in an accident. It was one year old when bought. But who knows maybe the father inlaw did something and didn't say anything. (He was good at bumping into things) I will give both ideas a try, Thanks much

I always hesitate to tell people to do that unless the body lines obviously don't line up. If you go too far its much harder to get the door back down once its been forced too high. As long as you take it easy you're ok, sounds like you did.
