Two grays and a coyote

Recommended Posts

Gray #7 and 8 and coyote 7 came right around Christmas. The first gray was taken with #5 shot and the 12 gauge. These little guys usually come in quick if they're going to come and with the lack of snow this year they seem to be traveling around quite a bit. Bird distress sounds are the ones working the best.

The coyote and last gray were taken with my new toy for Christmas, night vision. I wanted to be able to extend my hunting opportunities and it seems to be filling the bill nicely. I set up on the West side of a small 10 acre field with some thick brush to the East and a light wind from the NE. I set up the caller directly South of me about 50 yards out. I started with some distress sounds pretty low and immediately had the gray come busting out. I picked him up along the field line to the SE of me and quickly got on him and made the shot. It dropped immediately so figured why not keep calling. I wasn't too far from a road that had some pretty constant traffic on it and I thought maybe the traffic sound provide some cover for the shot. I kept calling on and off for about 35 more minutes and was scanning to the south of me and noticed another black spot that wasn't there before. I quickly got into position as it just stood there facing me. I squeezed the trigger and this one also dropped at the shot and never moved. The lack of damage that these little 17 Remington's do on these things is incredible and usually they drop in there tracks.
