Fall Patterns/Presentation

catchandrelease

Recommended Posts

Hello, this is my first adventure into the bass forum. I was converted to a bass fisherman from a @%^@eye(don't know if that word is welcome in this forum) : ) fisherman 2 summers ago. In 2 years I have stacked up quite the bass arsenol of rods, reels, plastics, jigs, tubes, worms, senkos, flukes, various topwater, cranks, spinnerbaits- you name it. My presentation of choice is definately wormin' or senkin'-so versatile. I have read about bass in the fall and it is supposed to be jignpig, slorollin' spinnerbaits, and cranks. However, the past two fall seasons, I have really struggled. I will catch straggler nice fish but never seem to locate a group of fish-or can never get them to move. What movements do bass make in Minnesota in the Fall, and what has been established as a consistent pattern for you die-hard Bass people out there? Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks, catchandrelease

I could get really long winded on this.. but will wait for others to fill in.. This question really needs a little more information. I talk to some anglers who call this time of year right now as "FALL" fishing.. and yes we have started some fall patterns... However, I call now untill ice is covering the lake.. as "fall"... As the year progresses the fish will become more predicatble and school up tighter in my opinion. The key, green weeds! Find the heathy weeds and dont leave them... The only thing that will pull me off weeds is a decent wind and rocks...

As the weeds start to die back, look for inside turns.. where deep water is closest to shore.. try and cover water.. IE.. spinnerbaits.. rat-l-traps, shallow cranks.. and find "A FISH".. once you catch one.. slow down and see if there are more.. if there isn't I would be VERY SURPRISED!.. as I say slow down.. go back to jigs, plastics(texas rig, carolina rig, splitshot rig)

IMHO true fall fishing has not yet begun!

Welcome to the bass forum catchandrelease! I'm an ex-walleye nut myself... Exudedude has you covered with some great information. I agree that we aren't into fall patterns yet, although this is a very productive time to be on the water. Typically when you start feeling true fall weather patterns - it is still early. The water takes longer to cool and turn.

a strategy that has worked well for me in the fall is to emulate a frog (green: spinnerbaits w/ twister tails, buzz baits w/ twister tails and jig -n- pigs) the frogs migrate into the lake/river to hibernate in the bottom. seems to work very well. this last weekend while in northern minnesota i caught a few bass that were no more than a few feet from shore in a foot or two of water. i think they were up near shore hitting the frogs as they came into the water.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
