LOTW,Whitefishbay,Crowlake fishing report

Jan 1st started our first week of ice fishing. The lake trout on Crow Lake are in 50 feet suspended at 20-30 feet. Cannon glow tubes are working the best. There is enough snow, no slush can get just about anywhere. We have had groups go out to Rowan, Caviar, Cameron, Whitefish Bay and LOTW and the fishing has been great.

Any current reports?

I've heard spoons and sonar type lures have been producing well.

How are the snow depths on Crow? Any slush to deal with?

Headed up that way on the 16th for 2.5 days of troutin'.

Hoping the weather and conditions will be better than last year at that time.

Tons of slush on the lake and bitter cold temps/wind forced us to fish out of our portables instead of running and gunning.

Looks like temps in single digits above zero for highs. Not great but could be a lot worse.

Hoping for some sun and little/no wind and we should still be able to run and gun, instead of setting up the portables and hunkering down.

We experienced 4-5 inches of snow last night 2-10-2015. There is about 12-13 inches total snow on LOTW, Whitefishbay and Crow Lake. There will be more snow in your deep bays with some slush, so always be aware of where you stop your sled. There is about 20-24 inches of ice on the lakes, with the additional snow I would suggest using an extention on Whitefish Bay.There will be more snow in different areas because of drifting.

Fishing hasn't been as successful as early January. One group did well off of steep rock in 70 feet depths. Others found fish in the mud flats in 20 feet. We are still using the same old lures as the past few years. 4inch white and glow tubes, the Sebile vibrato greenie is still doing well. If you want to try something new, I would look for anything that vibrates in pink, for trout fishing.

Crappie fishing has been really good this year, in town off of Gordies and out at Hay island. If I find out any more details on where the trout are I will share that information. But Caviar, Rowan and Whitefish have all been difficult to fish the past few weeks with fish at all different depths. I guess they call this fishing, I would be prepared to try anything and everything.

Just got back from 2 1/2 days of laker fishing on Kakagi.

Even with the cold temps, we kept on the move and put a half dozen 3-6lb lakers on the ice.

Vertical presentations wouldn't hardly get a look, but horizontal presentations were the way to go as long as there was some "meat" on the hook. Set lines w/ a large dead minnow only produced 1 fish.

Tubes, Northland Airplane jigs, and Clackin' Rap type lures were the producers.

Best depths were 40-60'. Every spot we tried had fish on it.

About knee deep snow on most of the lake and we only found one slush pocket.

Wishin' the temps would have been better but we dressed for the weather, so we barely fished out of the portable.

Thinking of giving it a go again at the end of June on the open water.
