eagle_3464
With another extended period of temps above freezing along with the rain and wind there is a considerable amount of water on top of the ice looking for somewhere to go. If you have your wheel out and fished Saturday or since, you may want to check your lakes ice. I was shocked to see all of our snow melted overnight and it worried me all day being new to wheel house fishing. I took off an hour early so I could get out to check with plenty of light. I'm glad I did, and didn't waste any time hooking up and pulling off the lake. 3 of the 6 holes had expanded to the size of a hole cover with the ice below those 3 looking much thinner than it had been. There is still lots of water washing down the holes so not taking any chances. My guess is we'll see more houses going in within the next 24 to 36 hours until we get temps back below freezing. Just wanted to give you all a heads up if you haven't checked. Be safe.
JayDeHay
This is turning in to one of the worst ice fishing seasons of my short lifetime. How are we supposed to be the mother state of all that is great in the winter world, if we can't have a decent winter?!

eagle_3464
precisely my point and not crying about anything. OP was simply meant as a respectful informative post to fellow wheel house owners that may have their house on deteriorating conditions. I felt safe on 14" but not after witnessing how the flowing water was cutting the ice. Maybe the conditions are much better on your lake, good for you. Until we get a good refreeze I will be using the portable. Good luck and be safe.
