Growing Sweetpotatoes

So last year I grew tobacco to see if it could be done up north and it grew so this year I am going to try and grow some Sweetpotatoes. Anyone have any experience growing them up North? Also going to be doing some grow bag gardening and also try some "Rain gutter" gardening. What can I say it is the middle of December and forty out so I am thinking about Spring already !

Well no comments after a week, it look like I have this seasons growing challenge. Not going to try celery again, that was a disaster but the daughter likes sweetpotatoe fries so I will have to give growing them a try. Did you know sweetpotatoes and yams are NOT the same thing even though here in Minnesota all the grocers call sweetpotatoes Yams! and the accepted way to call sweetpotatoes is one word not two (Sweet Potato) What can I say I have been doing research on them.

From what I have read, what is grown here and eaten here are sweetpotatoes, not yams, no matter what folks call them.

I've grown sweetpotatoes here in south central MN so it should be possible tho I don't know how far north you are. Plant them in full sun, hottest place you can find, cover mounded dirt with black plastic with slits cut in it to plant your plants in. My variety is Georgia Jet and I usually plant them when I plant peppers-Good Luck
