Oil level in 2005 Corolla

Recommended Posts

Just changed oil and oil filter in my son's Corolla. I put in the specificed amount but it only showed a little above half-way between the marks on the dip stick. Do I leave it as is or add more to bring it up to the top mark. Why are some cars like this? My Silverado and my wife's Odyssey are right at the top mark with the specified amount.

It takes as many quarts as necessary to read full on the dipstick. Don't care what the specification is. The same thing I tell to new hires at the shop.

Half way on the dipstick is fine. This is typically a 1/2 quart. you'll be adding more than that in a thousand miles anyways.. wink

Once the oil filter is primed it may take a little while for the oil to drain back. Again to back up Jeremy, anywere between the low and full mark is good. Usually half way is ideal.

And try to attempt to check the oil level often, some vehicle s like to sip their oil faster than others.

Thanks for the information. I run synthetic in all the cars and change oil at ~5,000 miles. This 2005 Corolla has ~60,000 miles and had about 5,600 miles since the last oil change and was only down about 8 ounces and the oil still looked pretty clean!! We bought it a year and a half ago and it had 51,000 miles on it. When we transferred the title we noticed the woman who owned it was 100 years old. The proverbial "granny" car.
