Lx7 guys. Got a question for ya.

Well. I've been using a vex fl12 for years. Just bought a lx7 gritting my teeth. I bought it over the fl28 for a couple reasons. 1. Because it has the most wattage on the market and I fish deep waters often. 2. Because of the options it has that vexilar doesnt/can't. My question is for the lx7 peeps that use the graph. What are your opinions of the graph while ice fishing?? Has made any real difference for you seeing what's going on or does it not really matter? Compared to the flashers and showdown features. Just looking for insight. I Know I'll draw my own conclusions in time but thought I'd ask opinions.

Thanks

You will love the graph. They are only different displays showing the same information but one, the graph, gives you a history that you can learn from. The only conceivable reason Marcum offers the circular "flasher" display is because of people's reluctance to move to something new. I have been using an X102C graph for ice fishing for a decade and I will never use a circular display. What do you use in your boat? Why not take advantage of all information? I am getting an LX7 as well and will only use with graph modes.

If anything is on the bottom you see it in the lx7 graph plain and simple it shows all. No more reading into the bottom like the vex. It's there on the marcum that's one thing you will see. Just drop your jig down as soon as you lift it it's separated from the bottom. Also now you have zoom! Move able zoom! Select the size zoom window you want to so if you're fishing deep it will be huge. Along with narrow beam ducer and 20 degree. Enjoy!

Been using the LX-7 since it came out then upgraded to a lx-9 and the graph and zoom graph are all I use. Can see the smallest bottom action and actually identify fish by their sonar movement. Using a flasher display is like so old fashion.

I use the split screen with the graph and the vertical zoom. This way i get detailed info on the zoom and also fish habits on the graph. Really a super nice feature. Its also very useful when a fish happens to swim by. a regular flasher shows it when it is below, but when it is out of range it disappears. The graph allows you to see that a fish swap through at a certain depth, adjust your depth and land it.

SO WHEN YOUR ON GRAPH MODE YOU CAN SEE YOUR JIG ??? thats what your saying ??? can you see the fish coming off the bottom to hit your jig in graph mode ????

Oh Yes! I just bought the LX7. This unit is awesome! Worth it. Graph mode is sweet.

I have the LX7 and to me it depends on how long it takes for the fish to come up and hit the jig if jigging. It shows your jig and the action on the jig so if there is good separation between jig and bottom it will show another line (the fish) on the graph come up slightly in a horizontal angle. If it comes up instantly and hits the jig the graph to me is of no use...that is where the 2nd screen on the same display comes into play...I use the ZOOM screen for my 2nd dislay and this shows action better to me because the graph shows what just happened not what is happening IMO.

If you had a set line with a bobber set a foot or more off the bottom the graph would show the fish approaching your minnow and so would the ZOOM screen. The graph does not come into play as much as the ZOOM screen IMO but is cool to have and see if they come up and go back to the bottom. What I like is the clarity, shows fish better anywhere in the column, and minimal separation you get especially in ZOOM. Option to have a 3rd display on the screen is OK but gets too cluttered IMO. I have used them all except the Vex FL-28 and the LX 7 and 9 are way out front as far as being able to configure it and dial in exactly how you want to fish and the things you want to look at...and a lot easier to use than I was expecting.

Actually the graph and your zoom are both displaying what is happening as they are processing the same information. The graph just includes history. It is a new mind set quite easy to grasp and adapt to.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
