Chamberlain, South Dakota

Recommended Posts

Hey Fellas.

I'm taking my 8 month old GSP to South Dakota next week. I usually hunt around Aberdeen, but we're heading down to Chamberlain to try something new. I know there are a lot of "lodge hunting" opportunities over there, but does anyone have thought on public land quality or permission hunting in that area? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I used to live in Chamberlain and generally the public land is hit pretty hard by this time of year. I have not been out there yet this year but from talking with friends in the area it is not very good. Early year people did great but it has died down now. Talked to one friend who hunted private land last week and a group of 4 with 3 dogs got 3 birds. Public land reports are seeing dozens if not hundreds of birds but they are all flushing very wild, hundred yards out. I think you may have decent luck hunting ditches with good cover next to cornfields.
