Laryngeal Paralysis in a Labrador.

I think my 12 year old may have this issue.

I hunted her today, she flushed 2 roosters, but struggles breathe when it is hot and the pace is pushed. Any thoughts?

It is tough to retire her, but if she'll be with me longer I'll do it and find a new hunter.

My last gal had it. Lived till 15 y.o. She would only hunt on cool days and a couple hours at a time till she was 13. I let her do one 20 minute hunt down a wind break at 14. I'm afraid you are nearing the end of the road... A buddy did the lazer surgery on his Brittany that had it, he got one more good year because of it... But age does a number to them at 13... His dog also made it to 15... Made it out for a couple half day hunts at 13, but that was it....

Good Luck!

Ken

My 10 1/2 year old in my avatar developed it this past summer. It sure sounds like they have asthma. I was able to hunt him this last week in NoDak but had to limit his time. He did his best when I was able to keep him wet from lakes and ponds so he didn't have to rely on panting so much to cool off. I am treating it like this will be his last season to hunt and will make the most of it. My vet told me that it may be time to retire him and that warm humid weather makes it worse. Good luck with her.
