Line Conditioners

I use the KVD line Conditioner on my Fluoro spools. It works well. I have also used the Ardent Line Butter and that works also however the KVD stuff seems less oily. I spray it directly on my spool. I have noticed however that the better line I use the less spray I have to use.

I use KVD Line Conditioner on a regular basis all season long. Works very well on Flourocarbon lines. I don't use it on Braid however I know some people who spray their braid down as well. To answer your questions directly ....

Yes, I put it on initially and regularly through out the season

Yes, I spray directly on the spool (after initial application)

Get a lot of benefit for minimal expense with line conditioners.

Silicone spray, as far as I can tell it's exactly the same as reel/line magic and others as well as much cheaper. I use it only on mono and flouro and spray a small rag (old t shirt works the best) with it, and hold it onto the line while spooling it on. This cleans and coats the line as most lines are very dirty from the factory. I also stop occasionally to spray the entire spool while fishing.

I use it only on flouro. I put some on a rag and run the line through my rag-covered fingers as I spool the line up at the beginning of the year. Then, for as along as that line stays on the reel (usually until mid summer when I replace it), every few outings I'll just cast a long cast and spray on the spool, reel a little bit up, spray again, reel a little up, spray again, reel a little up, etc, until I've recoated most of the line. After a few casts and retreives, it distributes itself pretty well.
