Sonar screen cleaning

My Lowrance screen has a nasty/gritty film on it. How to safely clean it? I have tried Dawn and warm water. Also tried vinegar. Neither touched it! Dont wanna use the wrong thing and wreck it! I think it might be bug spray or sunscreen. Ideas anyone? Thanks!!

Windex with vinegar is what Humminbird recommends. Use a paper shop towel or a microfiber rag to wipe it off. Remember, don't use fabric softner on your rags that you clean glass with, it leaves bad steaks.

A lot of screens have a clear layer on them kind of like a car light cover. Once they get a little old and scratched up there it's much you can do. There are a few oily or acrylic coatings you can throw on them which help for a while, but then you have to reapply them.

I use the cleaner you can buy at vision center for cleaning your glasses.

I used Meguires #17 plastic cleaner on an older lowrance that seemed to have some flakeing of the plastic screen cover, it looked like new when done, used a small buffing wheel on my cordless drill.

I put screen savers on both my Bird's to eliminate this issue. Vinegar and water does do a pretty good job also.

Ammonia will damage the protective coating so whatever you choose make sure it's ammonia free.
