looking for fun camping spots with our new 5th wheel camper

Hi Upnorth. I have been googling your spots. Also look like they need to be on my list. My rails for the 5th wheel plate should be here tomorrow. I have a family reuinion on Labor Day and the rest of the month is free as far as I know.. Gotta go camping..

We plan on heading out to the North Shore area Thursday after work for a nice long weekend. And then 2 more trips in Sept. Sept is our fav time for camping. On the lake the fish are biting and any hiking is pleasant as it is getting cooler, and later in the month the color are pretty spectacular in northern part of the state.

Noma Lake will be gated shut. They put the gates up a couple of years ago. Too bad really. My dad and I used to stay there in October while grouse hunting. Great area for small game hunting.

Darn that is too bad. I was hoping we could at least use the campground with no amenities. I will take my trash home with me anyways. So Upnorth do you ever shore fish up on the North Shore? I have always wondered it that works there.

Sept. 3 sounds awfully early to close a campground. I could see Oct. 3 maybe.

There are some times especially in the fall when the lakers are fairly close along with the salmon. Evening or early am pitching spoons, soaking floated crawlers or floating spawn bags will take the occasional fish. Windy helps as long as it isn't bad enough that you can't cast or gets dangerous. Most the river mouths or breakwaters are the places to try. Not fast and furious, but take fish now and then.

I've seen that campground right on the shore at Two Harbors and one I think at Knife River. Has anyone ever camped at those spots? I wonder if they have elec. and if you can fish from shore there?

I took a couple of days off to get the new 5th wheel ready to go. Thinking of hitting the local State Forest campground this weekend. No water or elec but close to home so will be a good virgin voyage...

If you question the battery or batteries at all I would check things out in the driveway, or take a generator with. Figure something less than 5 yrs life cycle for 12 volt batteries. Suckes to get out there and have issues with batteries, can put a damper on a relaxing time out in the woods.

Well we went to the nearby State Forest campground and had a great time. I brought along a spare battery which was needed. We had beautiful weather and had to use the furnace at night which is also nice to know that it works. (need new thermostat as it wasn't very accurate but the heat worked)

One of the first things we did was setup dual batteries. Nice to not have to run the generator so often.
